Raphael was arguably the most celebrated artist of the High Renaissance and a contemporary of Michelangelo. It is said that he was able to see the Sistine Chapel while Michelangelo was in the process of painting it between the years 1508-1512. Raphael's painting of the prophet Isaiah in the church of Sant'Agostino in Rome is a direct result of Raphael's view of the figures in the Sistine Chapel. Notice the muscular body, twisting in its frame, with two nude figures at either side. The influence of Michelangelo is unmistakable.
