Bernini was the greatest sculptor of the Baroque period and his St. Theresa in Ecstasy presents the moment that St. Theresa of Avila undergoes a religious experience. In this work of art Bernini encompasses the characteristics of the Baroque: this is not an ordered and reasonable Renaissance work of art, but an emotional display presented on a stage for the viewer. This work is located in the church of Santa Maria della Vittoria. It is very close to the Roman train station and is well worth the time to enter and experience this masterpiece.
