Bernini belongs to the next generations of sculptors after Michaelangelo, and stands as the master of Baroque sculpture. His presence is felt all over Rome.
In the Borghese Gallery stands several of his masterpieces, including the Bernini's wonderful Apollo and Daphne. This myth was codified by the Roman author, Ovid, and shows the moment when Daphne, pursued by the god Apollo, was changed into a laurel tree.
This work was meant to be seen from all angles, and as you walk around the work, you see the various stages of transformation.
This work along would be worth the time to visit the Borghese Gallery. However, consider, room for room, the museum may have more masterpieces than any other museum in Rome, aside from the Vatican. Take the time to see this work.
Are you interested in seeing this?
Yes!
If there is time.
It doesn't really call to me.
