Churches Friday: San Stefano Rotondo

Updated: Nov 14

ree

The basilica of San Stefano Rotondo is unique in Rome! The interior is not a basilica style, but a circular church. And note the granite columns - they vary in size and color, likely taken from Roman ruins. The site is documented as a camp for Roman soldiers early in the 4th century.

Curiously, you can not see the church from the street but have to follow the wall around to find the opening!
