Day 2 - Arrival in Rome

Arrival

Siamo arrivati!  We have made it to Italy!

Once the plane lands, your excitement is great and expectations are high.  Be prepared - there is still a bit more to go.  First of all we have to get through customs.  Depending on the time of day and staffing, this can be time consuming, and a bit disconcerting.  Don't worry - we will eventually make it through and can collect our bags!

The next step is the train to the city.  The Rome airport is about 35 minutes from the center of Rome.  Trains run constantly directly from the aiport to Stazione Termini - the main train station for the city of Rome.  Sit back and relax as we zip through Rome's suburbs.  You know we are close when you see the ancient city walls from the time of Marcus Aurelius!

Taxis are plentiful outside the station.  It is a short ride to the hotel, where you can freshen up and we head outside for our first experience of Rome!

Don't worry - the first item on the list is a bite to eat.  We will find a trattoria where we can grab a plate of pasta to give us energy for the streets!

What are we doing?

One of the best parts of being in Rome is simply walking around.  The streets have so much character and, with the layers of history, you never know what you will find in the city.

But I have ideas!

Once we get our food we will walk to the church of Saint Peter in Chains and view one of the master sculptures by Michelangelo - his Moses!  (How is that for the first few hours of being in Rome?)  The church also contains the chains that held St. Peter when he was imprisoned in Rome, and those are prominently displayed as well.

The rest of the afternoon events will depend on how tired we are and how many delays we have had in our trip.

But for day one, Italian food, a walk in Rome, and a Michelangelo sculpture all make for a good first day!

Get ready.  Tomorrow we will immerse ourselves in ancient Rome!

Quick Question
Have you heard of Michelangelo's Moses?

Thanks for your feedback!
